Phoenix had a need.
In the mid-1990s, the Phoenix metropolitan area faced a growing demand for attainable homeownership. Recognizing the opportunity to help meet that need, Robert Lyles and Patricia Watts founded Starpointe Communities in 1996, specializing in condominium conversions. The company’s first three communities were well received, laying the foundation for decades of residential development across Arizona.
Growth Through Experience.
In 2003, Dan Richards joined the leadership team, bringing expertise in acquisition, planning, and engineering. By 2010, Starpointe had become one of Arizona’s largest condominium developers, delivering more than 3,800 homes through a diverse portfolio of residential and mixed-use projects. As housing needs evolved, so did the company. Starpointe became Deco Communities, shifting its focus to attainable rental housing. During this time, the Cabana brand was introduced, transforming underperforming properties into thoughtfully designed apartment communities through strategic redevelopment, quality shared spaces, and public art.
Building the Future of Attainable Housing.
In 2018, Greenlight Communities was established to take the Cabana concept a step further by developing newly constructed attainable rental housing. Building on decades of experience, Greenlight refined a vertically integrated development model that combines thoughtful design, efficient construction, and disciplined execution to deliver modern apartment communities at attainable rental rates. Today, Greenlight continues to expand its impact through both the Cabana and Streamliner brands, developing attainable housing that helps meet Arizona’s growing demand while creating lasting value for residents, communities, and investment partners.
