Mini-Splits: Mastering Efficiency, So You Can Chill
Since the inception of Greenlight, our mission has been to create attainable housing for Arizonans to enjoy. At the heart of attainable housing lies the concept of efficiency—smart design, cost-effective construction, comfortable living, and easy maintenance. As we strive to increase efficiencies wherever possible, we are making a big move to elevate the efficiency of our communities’ HVAC systems. Our upcoming Streamliner 67th project is leading the charge with the introduction of the mini-split heating and cooling systems.
Mini-splits bring many advantages to the attainable housing sector, starting with transforming this critical piece of the construction process. By eliminating the need for unit-specific ductwork, mini-splits cut down on material and labor costs during the MEP rough-in phase. This not only speeds up construction but also reduces expenses and waste.
The second advantage focuses on long-term utility costs for tenants. Greenlight Communities’ chosen mini-split systems surpass the 2023 Seer2 energy efficiency requirements (Seer2 17.5 to 21, compared to the mandated minimum of 14.3). This translates to more efficient and wallet-friendly heating and cooling solutions. Residents of one and two-bedroom apartments also get personalized control with zoned settings. Multi-unit mini-split systems enable residents to adjust temperatures in different parts of their units at various times of the day, enhancing comfort while saving energy.
Another perk of mini-split systems is improved indoor air quality. Unlike traditional ducted systems, mini-splits eliminate the need for air distribution through ducts within the apartment unit. This puts an end to common issues like dust and mold accumulation, often linked to ducted systems, which can lead to air quality concerns. Additionally, the absence of ducts curbs energy loss, which can reach up to 30% of conditioned air in ducting networks.
Mini-split systems offer many advantages in our Streamliner communities. Their enhanced efficiency not only brings cost savings for tenants but also contributes to better indoor air quality. Greenlight Communities remains dedicated to providing quality and comfortable attainable housing options while reducing environmental impact. The shift to mini-split systems marks a significant step forward in efficiency.
Eco-Friendly Living: Embracing Smaller Spaces for Increased Sustainability
Smaller living spaces, like those offered at our Cabana and Streamliner communities are more sustainable because they use fewer resources, promote minimalism, encourage eco-friendly designs, and reduce the need for personal vehicles. They also foster community engagement and inspire collective sustainability efforts, making them an excellent choice for environmentally-conscious individuals.
- Efficient Resource Consumption
Smaller living spaces demand fewer resources, from construction materials to heating and cooling. They not only reduce the carbon footprint of the building but also ease the strain on the environment by conserving resources.
- Minimal Energy Consumption
Reduced square footage means less space to heat or cool. Smaller homes require less energy to maintain a comfortable living environment. Smaller living space can equate to lower utility bills and reduction in carbon emissions.
- Less Clutter, Less Waste
Smaller spaces encourage minimalistic living, inspiring residents to declutter and reduce waste. This, in turn, supports recycling and waste reduction efforts, contributing positively to the environment. For those passionate about eco-friendly living, a smaller space becomes a natural choice.
- Encouraging Outdoor Living
With less indoor square footage, smaller living spaces often promote a stronger connection to the outdoors. Residents are more likely to embrace gardening, cycling, or walking, all of which are eco-conscious activities.
- Sustainable Design Options
Cabana and Streamliner communities are designed with sustainability in mind, featuring Energy Star appliances, community gardens, and bike racks to enhance eco-friendliness.
- Lower Maintenance Costs
Smaller living spaces often come with reduced maintenance costs allowing Cabana and Streamliner property to run more sustainably.
- Inspiring Sustainable Communities
Smaller living spaces can foster a sense of community as residents interact more often due to proximity. This, in turn, can inspire collective efforts towards sustainability, from community gardens to waste reduction programs.
- Reduced Water Consumption
Smaller living spaces encourage water conservation, as there are fewer fixtures to maintain. This not only helps protect our precious water resources but also translates into lower water bills for residents.
Charging Ahead: Sustainability Efforts at Cabana Communities
At our Cabana Communities, we are making strides towards a greener future. Our commitment to sustainability efforts is reflected in the innovative inclusion of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations within our communities.
- Green Living Made Easy: Cabana communities offer on-site EV charging stations to support the rise of electric vehicles, promoting cleaner transportation, and reducing our carbon footprint.
- Future-Ready Convenience: Our communities are designed with the future in mind. Residents can conveniently charge their electric vehicles on-site, eliminating the need to search for charging stations elsewhere and making sustainable living more accessible.
- Reducing Emissions, Enhancing Living: By encouraging residents to adopt electric vehicles, we actively contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This commitment not only helps combat climate change but also creates a healthier and more sustainable living environment.
- Living Green Together: Our EV charging stations foster a sense of community among environmentally conscious residents, all working towards a common goal of preserving our planet.
Cabana Communities are not just about rental homes; we’re shaping communities that prioritize both resident well-being and environmental health. Join us on the journey toward a sustainable and tech-driven lifestyle—live greener at Cabana.
Keeping It Cool: The Low-Key Impact of White Roofs
At Greenlight Communities, we make a conscious effort to consider sustainability in our developments whenever possible. One example is our choice to use white paint on the roofs of our communities. This decision isn’t just about aesthetics; white roofs help reflect sunlight, which can reduce heat absorption and lessen the demand on air conditioning systems. This step is part of our broader commitment to making thoughtful choices that contribute to more comfortable living environments for our residents, while considering the greater impact of the choices we make in our communities’ design.
Research shows that lighter-colored roofs can help mitigate the heat island effect common in urban areas, keeping neighborhoods cooler and more energy-efficient. While we don’t claim to be leading a green revolution, integrating eco-conscious materials like white roof paint is one of the ways we aim to be mindful of our environmental impact. It’s about taking practical steps that make a difference.
Small Choices, Big Impact: How ENERGY STAR Appliances Brighten Our Communities
At Greenlight Communities, we aim to make practical, thoughtful choices that support sustainability where possible. One of the ways we do this is by incorporating ENERGY STAR appliances into our Cabana and Streamliner communities. These appliances are designed to use less energy and water, helping residents reduce utility costs while contributing to a more eco-conscious lifestyle.
ENERGY STAR appliances are particularly beneficial in multifamily communities, where energy usage can add up quickly across multiple units. By using appliances that meet these energy-efficient standards, we help minimize overall consumption, reducing the strain on shared resources and promoting long-term savings for our residents. This choice reflects our commitment to making decisions that positively impact both the environment and the well-being of those who call our communities home.
